Arlene Ackerson Obituary, Death – Surrounded by her devoted family, Arlene L. Ackerson, 88, departed from this life on December 8, 2023, bringing an end to a life filled with love and compassion. She spent more than fifty years of devoted companionship as the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Ackerson. Arlene was born in Manchester on September 12, 1935, into a loving and caring family. Her parents were Robert and Harriet Fonteyn. After completing her studies in the halls of Manchester West High School, she married Robert on September 22, 1956, marking the beginning of a lifetime together. Together, they raised a lovely family in Bedford, promoting harmony and love in their house.

Arlene was a model caregiver, giving her all to her family’s upbringing in their early years. Her lifelong love of painting and art culminated in her proficiency in restoring and stenciling antique furniture for neighborhood shops. She later took great delight in her role as Head of Technical Services at the Bedford Library, which spoke to her commitment and development as a professional.

Her selfless nature was demonstrated by her active participation in the grief team, food pantry, and Eucharistic ministry at St. Raphael’s Parish, where she was a faithful volunteer. Throughout her complex life, Arlene valued her time at Rye Beach, especially spent there with her dear friend Pat, leaving these memories woven into the fabric of her legacy.

Her three children, John Ackerson (Janeen) of Bedford, Sandra Ackerson (Michael Clougherty) of Goffstown, and Peter Ackerson (Christiane), all embrace the legacy that their mother Arlene leaves behind. Her four grandchildren, Kristen Wencis (Michael), Jonathan Ackerson (Melissa), Gregory Goupil (Lisa), and Lauren Olson (Richard), as well as her six cherished great-grandchildren, carry on her legacy. Although she was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert T. Fonteyn, and husband, she is survived by nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the personnel of St. Teresa Rehab and Nursing Center for providing Arlene with kind care over the last four years, treating her with respect and decency. To commemorate Arlene’s legacy of kindness and selflessness, the family has requested donations to be made in place of flowers to St. Teresa Rehab and Nursing Center in her memory.
