D.O.A
Bloodrock Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴Laying here looking at the ceiling
Someone lays a sheet across my chest
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back

I try to move my arms and there's no feeling
And when I look I see there's nothing there
The face beside me stopped it totally bleeding

The girl I knew has such a distant stare

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Then I looked straight at the attendant
His face is pale as it can be
He bends and whispers something softly
He says there's no chance for me

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying
God in Heaven, teach me how to die

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Overall Meaning

The Bloodrock song "D.O.A." depicts a narrator who is lying on his back, looking at the ceiling while someone lays a sheet across his chest. The song is extremely graphic in terms of the imagery of the scene. The singer's fingers are warm and something is flowing down them, while the pain is throbbing through his back. He tries to move his arms but they are unresponsive. The face beside him is bleeding heavily, and the girl he knew has a distant stare. The singer then remembers that they were flying along and hit something in the air.

The lyrics suggest that the singer has been involved in some sort of accident, presumably a plane crash, and he is now dying. Life is flowing out of his body, and the pain is flowing with his blood. The sheets around him are red and moist where he is lying. The singer pleads with God in heaven to "teach him how to die."

The song is a powerful depiction of the fear and acceptance that comes with the end of one's life. It is a stark reminder of the fragility of life, and the fact that at any moment, our time on this earth could come to an abrupt end.
