Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴Sećam se kao da gledam
Baka me u crkvu vodi
Kraj mene ljudi se ljube i viču Hristos se rodi.
Božić je, Božić je pucaju prangije
I česnicu baka sprema a mene tamo nema
Stari otac badnjak nosi
Ko sada vidim tu sliku
Beli se inje u kosi zvonaru na zvoniku Božić je, Božić je pucaju prangije
I česnicu baka sprema a mene tamo nema
Drhte mi maleni prsti
Baka me u crkvu vodi
Hajde se sine prekrsti i reci Hristos se rodi
Božić je, Božić je pucaju prangije
I česnicu baka sprema a mene tamo nema
Overall Meaning
In this song, Baja Mali Knindza reminisces about his childhood memories of Christmas time, and being taken to church by his grandmother. As he observes those around him kissing and shouting out "Christ is born," he can't help but feel left out. He describes how his grandmother is preparing a special bread, but he is not there to partake in the festivities. He also remembers seeing his father carrying a bundle of oak branches or badnjak, another important tradition, which is used later in the day to light a fire and keep it burning throughout the evening.
As he continues to reflect on these memories, Baja Mali Knindza recalls the cold, snowy weather, and the sight of frost in the hair of the bell ringer up in the belfry. He then returns to the present moment, and describes how his fingers tremble as his grandmother takes him to church once again. She urges him to cross himself and shout out "Christ is born," as the church bell rings out, announcing the arrival of Christmas. This song captures the nostalgia and warmth associated with this special day, as well as the sense of alienation that some may experience during the holiday season.
