Bring Me the Horizon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴Remember the moment you left me alone and
Broke every promise you ever made
I was an ocean, lost in the open
Nothin' could take the pain away
So you can throw me to the wolves
Tomorrow I will come back
Leader of the whole pack
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
The sticks and the stones that you used to throw have
Built me an empire, so don't even try
To cry me a river, 'cause I forgive you
You are the reason I still fight
So you can throw me to the wolves
Tomorrow I will come back
Leader of the whole pack
Beat me black and blue
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
So you can throw me to the wolves
Tomorrow I will come back
Leader of the whole pack
Beat me black and blue
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
I'll leave you choking
On every word you left unspoken
Rebuild all that you've broken
And now you know (know)
I'll leave you choking
On every word you left unspoken
Rebuild all that you've broken
And now you know
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
So you can throw me to the wolves
Tomorrow I will come back
Leader of the whole pack
Beat me black and blue
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
Overall Meaning
In Bring Me the Horizon's song Throne, the lyrics express the idea of turning pain into power. The first verse addresses a past relationship where promises were broken and the singer was left in pain. However, instead of succumbing to that pain, the singer uses it as fuel to become stronger than ever before. The chorus illustrates this idea by stating that even if the singer is thrown to the wolves, they will return and become the leader of the pack. Every wound and scar they endure will only make them stronger and build their throne.
The second verse expands on the idea of using hurt as motivation. The sticks and stones used to hurt the singer have, in turn, helped them build an empire. Even though the person who caused the pain may try to apologize by "crying a river," the singer forgives them and uses their actions as a reason to continue fighting. The bridge offers a warning to the person who caused the pain by saying, "I'll leave you choking on every word you left unspoken, rebuild all that you've broken." The singer has become so strong that they can take on the person who hurt them and rebuild what was destroyed.
