Mr. Patel has earned his estimated net worth of $2.1 billion with Cadillac Healthcare, the fifth largest pharmaceutical company in India which is based at Ahmedabad in Gujarat state. He is the current Chairman and Managing Director of the company co-founded by his father in 1952. Currently, it sells vaccine and SugarFree, the top selling sugar substitute in India. It has a marketing venture with Bayer Healthcare for India.

Cadillac Healthcare acquired another Indian pharmaceutical company called German Remedies in 2001. The company signed an agreement to acquire 100% stake in Quimica e Farmaceutica Nikkho do Brazil Ltda or Nikkho on June 25, 2007 for an estimated $65 million.
