We live in a world that relentlessly discusses self-love and body-positivity on social media, but these concepts remain far-fetched in real life. The people who appear to be open-minded and unorthodox online are often the first ones to raise eyebrows and put labels on anyone who takes a detour from normalcy. And why should anyone get to define normalcy, anway?
Your definition of normal may be poles apart from mine, but that doesn’t make either of us wrong. That’s why it’s unrealistic and in fact, foolish, to expect humans to behave like products on a factory line. We’re all built unique. We come in different shapes and sizes. We have varying interests and are drawn to dissimilar things. Doing what you love, without caring about what anyone thinks, is the only way to be happy here.
Who says nail polish is only for women?
Rahul Khanna, who’s one of the most good-looking men in Bollywood, lives by this ideology. Known for his roles in Wake Up Sid and Love Aaj Kal, the actor often shares sleek selfies and stylish holiday pictures with his fans on Instagram. One of his recent posts - an almost-bare-bodied mirror selfie, broke the internet and how. Taking that one step further is this selfie of him flaunting his ‘malepolish’. Yes, that’s what he called getting his nails painted black! Dressed in a bathrobe, the actor confidently posed for the camera with his chin resting on his palm, captioning it ‘Putting the man in manicure’. He won praises for breaking stereotypes and rightly so.
Smashing gender roles... and how!
As normal as this should be, our society has a long way to go towards not over-sensationalizing news like these and treating them for what they are - someone doing something not to prove a point, but simply because they felt like doing it. Until we get there, forces of dissent like Rahul Khanna are helping us drive love and acceptance forward among men who choose to dress differently.
Kudos to Rahul Khanna for smashing gender stereotypes!
