Crash Bang Wallop

In September 2006 Hammond was involved in an extremely high speed crash. He was test-driving a "Vampire jet car powered by a Bristol-Siddeley Orpheus turbojet engine" and was reported as travelling at 288.3mph at the time of the crash. He received what was described as a 'severe brain injury' but he recovered and was filming the next series of Top Gear by December of that year.
