Si Tú Supieras Compañero
Rosalia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴Toma este puñal dorado

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Rosalía's song "Si Tu Supieras Compañero" describes a painful and violent love in which the persona asks her lover to take a golden dagger and stab her with it, alluding to the intensity of the passion they share. The person seems to be saying that she wants him to hurt her, and that even if he does, she would not forget him. The imagery here is dark and intense, with the allusion to the dagger and the reference to the candle flame that he will put out with his gust of wind when walking away. Here, the person is saying that her heart is like the candle flame, which he can easily put out when walking away.

In the next verse, the persona speaks of her travels through the world, but acknowledges that her soul belongs to the place where her lover is. The distance may separate her physical self from him, but she remains firmly attached in her soul. She repeats the same lines from the first verse, asserting that she wants him to stab her with the golden dagger, and that she will not forget him even if he does.

Finally, in the last part of the song, she speaks of the jealousy she feels when the sun rises, which is an allusion to her lover leaving her bed in the morning. She then describes the beauty of the queen of her heart, the image of her mother, and speaks of her desire to paint and burn herself and everything around her for her lover. She ends with a plea to St. Raphael, the patron saint of travelers, asking for help to endure the pain of being so close to water and not being able to drink it.
