The college sweethearts have been married since 1996. They met each other at Harvard College years before tying the knot. Being a couple from different races, it was not an easy journey for the two at the initial stage but they remained steadfast in their love.
After college, Patrick continued with his medical residencies and fellowships to take his career to the best place it could be. Ketanji, on her own part, also furthered her studies. She also moved to Boston in order to be close to Patrick who was working there at the time. It was in Boston that they started a family together.
In her opening statement during the Supreme Court selection process, Ketanji showered her husband with praise and gratitude for being the “best husband” anyone could ask for. It was an emotional moment for all and Patrick cried most of the time.
She emphasized how different their family backgrounds are, mainly because going to college (Harvard) was normal for them but for her, she was the second generation to go to college at all. Despite the glaring differences in their backgrounds and upbringing, the couple found common ground to love each other unconditionally.
